Webs of Relation presents material co-creations made with and for fungi, developed during Charli Rose Gerry’s residency at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf. Rooted in her papermaking research, this body of work uses locally foraged mushrooms to explore the vast material and metaphorical mysticism of the fungi queendom. By repurposing old artworks and thesis drafts in entanglement with vital fungal bodies, these works contemplate the stories and ways of being that emerge through close human–nonhuman relations. Guided by the sensory act of mushroom foraging, Webs of Relation opens space for weaving connections and bridging differences with our fungal kin.
Charli Rose Gerry is an emerging multidisciplinary artist and writer living and working on Gadigal land (Sydney). Her practice investigates the intimate and complex relationships between humans and fungi. Engaging mushroom foraging as an embodied research strategy that can attune to vital encounters with more-than-human existences, Gerry’s work fosters speculative, collaborative exchanges between artist and situated ecologies. Through paper-based assemblages made with fungal beings, Gerry’s practice offers us entrances to more ethical engagement across species.
