Sue Hanckel, Eridanus
Sue Hanckel is a contemporary printmaker living and working on Gadigal land. Hanckel completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts following a career spanning medicine, costume design, and documentary film. Hanckel describes her work as “a journey of conjecture and fictional mapping across space, both psychological and myth-laden. It is a vessel to examine metaphoric spaces for change, a place to hold uncertainty and the unfamiliar.”
Constellated presents a suite of large-scale lino prints developed between 2017-2023; each unique work drawing upon literal, mythological, and metaphorical perspectives of the night sky. Hanckel’s constellations invite viewers to ponder their place within the vast and ancient celestial realm.
