Sarah Edmondson, Do Not Drop
Sarah Edmondson is a Sydney-based artist who holds a Master of Fine Art from the National Art School, and a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Newcastle. Edmondson has exhibited regularly since the early 2010s, with recent exhibitions including Electric Dreams, St Cloche Gallery (2022), (re)Arrangements, Grace Gossington Smith Gallery (2022), What are the Chances?, Firstdraft (2019); Reimagining the Canon, the University of Newcastle Gallery (2019), Closed on Mondays, Cement Fondu (2019), and According to Chance, Galerie Pompom (2018). Her work is held in the collection of Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, and amongst private collections in Australia and overseas.
Out of Order presents a suite of needlepoint tapestries executed in wool, mohair and nylon on canvas, linen and hessian, featuring enlarged and adapted hand-written messages from parcels and packages. Through the magnification and decontextualisation of these found words, Edmondson illuminates the graphic quality, idiosyncrasy, and absurdity of marks made with little regard for design, and often in a hurry.
