Kirsty Collins in Conversation with Benjamin Clay | Artist Talks
Join us for an artist talk with Woollahra Small Sculpture Finalist Kirsty Collins in conversation with Benjamin Clay, Public Art Consultant at Urban Art Projects.Kirsty Collins is a ceramic artist, accessibility designer and advocate for the deaf and disabled communities. Notably Collins developed sensorial tableware – a disability pride project – with a blind and deafblind chef for the ceramic industry, showcased at the Australian Ceramics Association exhibition ‘TABLED’.Collins’ work #SickBitch celebrates the disability pride that flourished online during the pandemic. Amid isolation, social oppression and structural ableism, many chronically ill and disabled individuals built strong, supportive online communities and actively practised disability mutual aid. The artwork conveys a message of strength and resilience, reflecting the artist’s ten-year journey with a rare autoimmune disease and profound deafness, and the solidarity embodied in the fierce beauty of disability advocacy.
