Karen Black in Conversation with Danielle Robson | Artist Talks
Join us for an artist talk with Woollahra Small Sculpture Finalist Karen Black in conversation with Danielle Robson principal and senior curator at Urban Art ProjectsKaren Black’s work occupies the scope of human relations through physical and psychological encounters. Spanning painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture, her practice engages with the tensions and contradictions of desire, emotion and the self. Often ambiguous, Black’s work speaks of an intimacy and vulnerability derived from her interest in radical care and gentleness.Mountain Head continues Black’s exploration of the intersection between body and landscape, abstraction and figuration. Here, the shapes and position of the clay are suggestive; limbs intertwine like root systems, growing together, reaching for something to hold on to. This work was made as a response to the chaos met in our everyday lives, and as a consideration on how we can counter that chaos through interconnectedness.
