Axis explores the transformative nature of glass through geometric objects crafted using lamination, gluing, and coldworking. The exhibition highlights glass’s duality—its transparency and opacity—while emphasising the interplay of colour, light, and form. Each piece occupies a liminal space, inviting contemplation of shifting perceptions. The contrast between machined and hand-finished surfaces is enhanced by the changing natural and artificial light on the gallery, prompting reflection on the boundaries between colour, form, and perception in the ambiguous medium of glass.

Madisyn Zabel, based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land (Canberra), works primarily with sculptural glass. By manipulating external surfaces and internal planes of colour, she explores the relationship between two and three dimensions. Zabel has exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo shows at Sabbia Gallery (2021) and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery (2019). Her work has been recognised through numerous accolades, including the Museum Kunstpalast Jutta Cuny-Franz Foundation Talent Award (2017), the JamFactory FUSE Emerging Artist Prize (2020), and as a finalist in the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s Tom Malone Prize (2021) and the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize (2023).
